I saw these at my local Lion D’or today for 168yen. I <3 special edition stuff, and also autumn stuff, and also bacon stuff, sooooo yeah. The bacon reminds me of some Smoky Bacon potato chips I used to have when I’d visit my dad when I was in elementary school, so way back in the early 90s. It’s not as strong as those ones were, but it’s subtle and delicious.

Ramune Kit-Kat
Ramune is a sweet, fizzy drink that is popular in Japan in summer. It comes in a glass bottle with a marble sealing it which rattles around while you try to drink etc. These limited edition Kit-Kat have been around most of the summer. They’re pretty shockingly green! The colour of soap! But they don’t taste like soap!
And they have a strong smell! Of ramune! And they taste like ramune! It’s bizarre! That never happens! ¥292 at Lawson.
Sports Drink Kit-Kat
In my ongoing quest to document bizarre friggin’ Kit-Kats from around the country, I came across this offering in my local Lawson. They’re allegedly “Sports Drink” flavoured, and are allegedly in support of the JFA Dream Asia Project, and soccer in Asia generally.
My initial image of these is that they were going to taste of Pocari Sweat, but upon tasting, that’s not entirely true. Turns out they actually taste more like Aquarius. Aquarius-flavoured Kit-Kat. It’s bizarre, but delicious.
Red Chicken “Rock the Floor” Pringles
I saw these the same time I saw the previously mentioned Cheese Potato Pringles. For ¥128 at Lawson, there’s really no harm in giving them a go, yes?
They’re good. They’re not BBQ, and there’s not really anything chicken about them, but they sort of give me a feeling of uh… phở, or thai red curry. There’s a little bit of a vinegary taste, but not a sour kick, it just brings a bit of sweetness out of the other spices. You know what I mean? I can’t explain well. Oh god how did this get here, I am not good with food.

Cheese Potato “Rock The Floor” Pringles
Bought these at Lawson for ¥128. Rock the Floor? They’re not that rockin’. Cheese Potato? Well, they ARE made of potato, and they are cheesy, but it’s really just the same cheese flavour they always use. It’s mild here, though, not overpowering CHEEEEEEEEEZE like it sometimes is. They’re good, give them a shot, I guess.
Shrimp Vindaloo
I’ve suddenly found myself nearly broke, and so I’m trying to eat on a budget, more than I ever have before. This is sort of budget-y, though I bought most of the ingredients pre-budgetary crisis, so it probably doesn’t count.
The rice is three for 398yen, the shrimp (pre-fried, in the shell — meant as a drinking snack, I reckon) was 168yen, and the Vindaloo sauce was something like 198.
SakeSwap July 2009: Retsu Junmai Ginjo
In July, I got a bottle of Retsu Junmai Ginjo from MelindaJoe, for SakeSwap. However, as I was in the process of getting ready to leave, and was busy, and had a huge number of drinking parties lined up already, I didn’t get around to drinking it until now. FINALLY! I SHALL CRACK IT OPEN!
American Street Food Pringles
Fast on the heels of the Double Cheese Pringles, I came across these two half-cans at another local Lawson Station.
As always, sucker for limited edition flavours of junk food, I jumped right in. Prior to eating, my expectation (or rather, my hope) for the Cheese Dog ones would be that there’s something to differentiate them from the Double Cheese ones — I want to taste tubesteak, dammit. The BBQ Chicken ones have a picture of a grilled fajita/gordita/wrap on them, which doesn’t satisfy what I think of when I hear “BBQ Chicken”, but whatever. I’m hoping for a slightly spicy, vaguely Tex-Mex flavour.
Right, so, the cheese dog ones are lacking in tubesteaktasticness. They are, however, different from the Double Cheese ones. There’s a BETTER cheese taste. Less salt, more cheese. Possibly, (and this may just be me tasting what I want to taste), a slight hint of pork, but I’m not entirely certain.
The BBQ Chicken ones are, as I suspected, just a touch Mexican-y. Like a Mexican version of the normal BBQ potato chip. Not too heavy, not overpowering. Not chicken-y at all, either. :/
I’m not even sure I understand the LA/BBQ Chicken connection. The LA/Mexican food connection, sure, okay, but “BBQ Chicken”? Someone from California enlighten me?
American Street Food Pringles are available at Lawson Station for something like 200yen or so, I would imagine. I must confess I didn’t pay attention. ._.
