There’s a tidy little shrine.

The Atago Shrine of Hongo-cho lies 700m north of JR Oyama Station. It’s an urban shrine. Near the two main north-south roads, near the railway, here you’ll find this shrine.

Oh there it is! How could I have missed this?

The deity here enshrined is Homusubi-no-Mikoto (火産霊命). In September, Jouou 2 (貞応2年, 1223), Oyamasaemon no Joutomomasa (小山左衛門尉朝政) was fortifying this place, and this shrine was located to the northeast corner of the castle to ward off the bad luck that flows from there.

A fine trunk.

This tree stands in front and to the left of the main shrine building.
