The Atago Shrine of Hongo-cho lies 700m north of JR Oyama Station. It’s an urban shrine. Near the two main north-south roads, near the railway, here you’ll find this shrine.
The deity here enshrined is Homusubi-no-Mikoto (火産霊命). In September, Jouou 2 (貞応２年, 1223), Oyamasaemon no Joutomomasa (小山左衛門尉朝政) was fortifying this place, and this shrine was located to the northeast corner of the castle to ward off the bad luck that flows from there.
This tree stands in front and to the left of the main shrine building.
