Gardening Sunday: Fancy a root?
After last week’s mother-of-all TL;DR posts, this week’s Gardening Sunday is pretty low-key, with not a lot to talk about.
First up, you may remember last week I talked about my alocasia, and how it had just unfurled a new leaf. The leaf is big and out and being leafy, now. There are two things which may be shoots, but they haven’t changed since last week. The plant’s a little top-heavy, and very uhhhh spread out, so it’s a bit in the way to be honest.
The avocado is still growing, slowly, but growing. It’s got just a few tiny new leaves at the very top that I’m watching with anticipation.
While checking my plants yesterday, I noticed that one of the leaves of my snake plant had gone all brown and sticky. It was ever so strange, and since I wasn’t entirely sure what the deal was, I decided to separate the entire plant. I gently pulled it out, cleaned the roots off, packed the soil back into the hole I’d left, and then popped it in hydroculture, after cutting the offending sticky leaf off.
The mealybugs are entirely gone from my cycad. Dunno if it’s growing or not. I do hope it’s not one of those plants that dies but doesn’t actually give any indication to let you know it’s died. D:
The spider plant is still rooting in water. It’s roots have grown a lot since last week! I dunno how long I ought to let it root in water though. Should I move it to a bigger glass and see if it roots more, or should I move it directly to hydroculture now? Your thoughts?
Finally, my Aloe Nobilis cuttings. I gave them a little water today, just to slightly moisten the soil. There doesn’t appear to be any rot (at least, not above soil), so maybe there’s a chance they’ll root and I’ll have saved the plant somehow! Maybe? Anyone? :/
